Interior Minister confirms attacks on bases of Renamo

The military clashes in recent days have been recorded frequently in Zambezia, specifically Morrumbala, and Sofala, in the region of Satungira in the administrative post of Vanduzi, Gorongosa district, and that have resulted in human casualties and property damage - whose Data have not been made public - on the side of the Defence and Security Forces and armed Renamo men, aimed at dismantling the foundations of Renamo and disarm the so- called residual "partridge" forces.

This was the explanation given by Interior Minister Jaime Basilio, on the afternoon of Friday, in Gorongosa district, Sofala, when confronted by the press about the frequent exchanges of fire in those regions.

"The peaceful environment concerns us all. What is happening in Vanduzi and Morrumbala are institutions efforts with vocation chasing nests of instability to remove these threats, in obedience to the wishes of all Mozambicans. We will follow these outbreaks, wherever they are, until we remove the last nest and pass the country to live peacefully

Renamo says there is violation of the AGP

Renamo in Maputo says it is concerned about the government's decision to use the defense and security forces to disarm the party in violation of the General Peace Accord and the Agreement of Cessation of Military Hostilies.

"As it is common knowledge, we have a headquarters in Morrumbala, in Zambezia province, where they are quartered our men awaiting reinstatement order agreed with the government, as established by EMOCHM(the international team observing the cessation of military hostilities between the Mozambican government and the rebel movement Renamo)however, the government has used dilatory ways to forcibly disarm us, attacking our men at the barracks, something which strongly reject, "he said.

"40 YEARS OF POLICE": Book fills gaps in the study of institutions

THE WORK ,40 Years of Police: Past Glory, Present Maturity and Professional Challenges of the journalist and Editor, Helio Filimone launched on Thursday in the city of Beira, was considered as a contribution in filling gaps in the study of institutions and the Mozambican state.

According to Interior Minister Basilio Monteiro, who chaired the ceremony, to collect, organize and publish facts that depict the history of the Police, Helio Filimone mirrors what were the objectives that guided the creation of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, addressing the various changes that the corporation met over the 40 years of its existence and projects the future glory.

The amphitheater of UniZambeze was packed with officers of the police, justice students and faculty students and minister Basilio Monteiro pointed out the work as an important tool for new generations andquot;to roam the pages of this work, will be able to understand the breadth of Police accountability in the achievement of the ideals of our state.

In turn, the commander of the PRM in Sofala, Alfredo Mussa spoke of the importance of the work for the new generations and praised the Hand#233;lio Filimone for being able to provide Mozambique with information in the context of the transformation of the Ministry of Interior.

Alfredo Mussa said the fact that the work brings about the present and past glory of responsibility and the challenge of professionalism, full of pride for those who are in the police, particularly the pioneers and the new generation that is to be professional. In turn, the Rector of UniZambeze, Nobre dos Santos, said it is a great tribute to the police, because andquot;it is rare to see on the police, we have seen many times fiction. We are here, the academy and the Police to celebrate this important work and we are open to academia to contribute to the professionalization of the police.

He said that the sense security that is felt in society, in our communities and neighborhoods is due to the commitment of these unsung heroes, reason why decided to embark on this project to talk about the police.


"We, the citizens have to nurture men and women who have struggled enough to ensure our tranquility'', Filimone said, explaining that this book contained real stories of young people who dropped everything and vowed to defend the homeland.
