Traders not obeying the regulations on management and use of plastic bags

Traders in Maputo city are not apply
ing the rules of the decree that regulates the management and control of the plastic bag. This was found yesterday during the awareness campaign conducted jointly by the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development (MITADER), Municipal Council of the ci ty of Maputo and Nationals Economic Activities Inspectorate. The decree, in force since the 5th of August,prohibits the free distribution of plastic bags in commercial establishments.Authorities visited several shopping centers and found that some do not charge any amount for plastic. "There are companies that are already comply with the provisions of the regulation
and there are companies that are not
fulfilling. It was supposed that we apply fines, but once the regulation is new,we are still in a sensitization phase, so that people are aware of their duties,"said the inspector of MITADER,Albertina Banze.
