The attempted kidnapping of a local businessman in Nampula, in the country's north, took place on Thursday, according to the Mozambican Police (PRM).

This Friday, PRM spokesman Zacarias Nacute told reporters that the force is working to solve the case that led to significant social unrest in Nampula.

Firearms were carried by the car-driving kidnappers, who fired them at the scene.

The kidnappers were unable to take the victim out of the cafeteria where he was staying due to the sheer victim's resistance, and in an effort to intimidate him, one of the crooks fired an AKM-47 machinegun at him, scaring the hell out of him, and then leaped into their car and drove off.
