Prolonged drought threatens people in Manica

Thirty-six thousand people are struggling to get drinking water due to prolonged drought affecting the Guro district in northern Manica province.

Of those affected,nine thousand are residents of the village headquarters and the rest of the interior of the administrative posts of Mandi and Nhamassonje.Insufficient water from constructed sources,rivers and ponds, afforded the reduction of pasture availability for the animals.

Allied to this, the built cisterns have been dry for months,which contributes to the formation of
long queues at the few sources
of water, where people dispute
this liquid with animals.

Road accidents kill 32 people in the country

At least 32 people died and 47
others have contracted unjuries, 13 of them in serious condition as a result of 42 road accidents that occurred in the week just ended, throughout the country.

According to the spokesman of the Police General Command of the
Republic of Mozambique (PRM),
Inacio Dina, overspeeding,passenger fall, collision between vehicles and poor crossing of pedestrians were some causes of the accidents in question.

Dina was concerned with the high number of claims that, increasingly, are being registered in the country.

Citizen who dragged Traffic Police agent surrenders to authourities

Ten days onwards, the man who dragged an agent of Traffic
Police in Maputo city surrendered to justice.

Speaking to the press, Xisto
Conge said on that occasion he had been wnervous because on the
same day he was traveling to
Inhambane,where he would attend the mass funeral of his father.

"It all started when I was in traffic talking on the phone.The agent came and hit the car window, scaring me. I thought it was a thief, but then I realized it was a traffic officer",said the young man,adding that the agent was not comprehensive."She asked me for documents and in the that confusion we did not find the documents.

I asked if we could get out of there as it was causing congestion.I asked us to leave that place,but she insisted that it should be at that location,than advance.When the car was moving,
she held the hood and remained holding on to it ,"said the young man.

Created commission of inquiryto investigate invasion ofMuiane mine in Gilé

The Police have created a commission of inquiry to investigate the populace's invasion of Muiane mine in Gile district,in Zambezia province,which took place last weekend during which were vandalized,infrastructure,equipment and products valued at ten million
US dollars,according to the mining company. Police said the establishment of the commission aims to determine the veracity of the facts in order to vindicate the perpetrators accountable. The information was released yesterday in Maputo,by General Command of the police. "The investigation initiated at this point is to determine the actual circumstances that created those riots that resulted in widespread damage to the mine that operates legally in that district'',said Inacio Dina,the police spokesman

Supposed patrol group assaults a citizen

A citizen was assaulted by an alleged patrol group of residents in Tsalala neighborhood in the city of Matola.

He is resident in Tchumene neighborhood, but during wrong time was stopped in the wrong place at the Tsalala district, municipality of Matola and assaulted by suspected members of community police armed with machetes.

The relatives of the victim are outraged with the situation and accuse the local leader of doing nothing to solve the case and are threatening their family.

The head of the neibhourhood denies the charges and says that sometimes he is not aware of patrols carried out in his neighborhood and that the citizen was mistaken for a criminal. 

It is in response to the alleged lack of police raids that residents of some neighborhoods do patrols,usually during the dead of night.

Maputo realises bike race

Over a hundred children in
Mattended this Sunday,a bike race in Maputo.

The aim is to popularize the practice cycling amongst children adding
value such as health and road
safety.

It is an initiative that brings together parents and guardians in order to
encourage the use of bicycles in chidren.Children of 3-16 years of age last Sunday participated in the
initiative which took place in the campus of the University Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo. In about 5 kilometers, the children had the opportunity to participate in various events.

This is the second edition of
the cycling race dedicated to
children.The organization that organised the race says it intends in the near future to spread the sport in other parts of the country.

President calls on population to denounce promoters of war

INHAMBANE PROVINCE

The head of State,Philip Nyusi,warned on Friday,the people of Panda district in the southern province of Inhambane,not to accept war and denounce those who promote it.

During his working visit to the district whilst greeting the people,Nyusi encouraged the population to live in harmony and reconciliation,to promote the development of the
country.

Nyusi also appealed to the population to raise awareness amongst promoters of instability to join the country's development project.

Reiterating the need to live in peace and stability,Guebuza guided Mozambicans to focus
attention on work and food production.

"Without food,hospitals, schools,roads and other infrastructure,we can not be at peace with ourselves'',the President
was quoted by AIM, stressing that "in peace we can do everything''
Bank of Mozambique
exacerbates market reference
interest rates in the country.

The measure aims to ensure macroeconomic stability in Mozambique.The Bank of Mozambique has risen to 8.25 percent interest rate on marginal lending facility liquidity.

This rate concerns the acquisition of liquidity of commercial banks with the Central Bank.The interest rate facility deposits related to the control of inflation by the Bank of Mozambique, was increased by 75 basis points to stand currently two point seventy- five percent.

The Bank of Mozambique has decided to increase interest rates during the last meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee held yesterday in Maputo.The meeting aimed to analyze the inflation projections and the risks of domestic and international situation.

The central bank also decided to
intervene in the interbank market to ensure that the money supply does not exceed 66,437,5 billion meticais in late
November current.

Vandalism at a mining company

Population invaded and vandalized the offices of the Tantalum Mining company in Muiane locality in Gile,
Zambezia province.The Attackers burned two bulldozers,one shovel excavator, and other high-value goods.

The population was allegedly enraged over the death of a miner target shot on the perimeter of the company concession.

MINOR ALBINO MURDER: INDIVIDUAL ARRESTED IN Balama, CABO DELGADO

A citizen was detained by the police of the Republic of Mozambique in Balama district of Cabo Delgado,charged with murdering and extracting genitals including hair, from a minor carrier of albinism.

The case was denounced by the wife of detainee, who claims to have lived moments of panic to see her husband bearing genital organ of a human being.

NIASSA NATIONAL RESERVE: ABOUT 50 ANIMALS POISONED

Authorities of the National Reserve of Niassa concerned about the death of animals by poisoned water and meat.
About 50 animals from lions,leopards, hyenas and vultures died this year after consuming water and meat poisoned with toxic products in that
conservation area.

Three hammerhead Sharks were killed by artisanal fishermen of Angoche,in Nampula Province.The Provincial Directorate of the Sea,Interior waters and Fisheries condemns the attitude for it is a protected species.

Crocodiles killed 10 people in Tete

ten people have been killed by crocodiles in the last six months,in the region of
 Degue, oTutside the city of Tete.

Degue sits on the banks of the
Zambezi River and people use the water to wash the clothes and household untensils.Crocodiles and hippos also attack people when they go to the fields.

The mayor of Tete city calls for greater prudence in the waters of the Zambezi River.

Youth brutally beaten by riot police

It all started when the elements of FIR (FORCES OF RAPID INTERVENTION) were going to Morrumbala from Sabe, in the province of Zambezia, when a Ismael Joaquim tried to photograph the cars and armored vehicles that were on
a mission to go and disarm
the Renamo base there exists there.

The elements of Fir realized that the young man took photographs
and to stopped the vehicles and chased the young man and beat him brutally that by this
time the young man is in the local health unit.
