Malawi could face a severe electricity crunch in the next four months due to weak generation of this resource. The announcement was made by ESKOM, production company and distribution of electricity, which warned consumers to prepare for hard times due to prolonged and systematic cuts that will register up to November. The situation, according to ESKOM, cited by Radio Mozambique, due to the reduction of water levels in Lake Malawi and the Shire river, which are the main sources of electricity generation. The hydropower plants are operating below installed capacity due to low rainfall recorded in some parts of the country, a fact that is attributed to climate change.
