A photo exhibition depicting the route of Mozambican diplomacy during its 40 years as an independent country opened Wednesday at the Fortress of Maputo, in downtown of the capital city. The show is the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MINEC) and consists of 150 photographs in black-and-white and color, based on the premise of making more friends and promote new partnerships. The images include some significant periods in the history of the country its struggle against Portuguese colonialism, national independence until the end of the mandates of former Presidents Joaquim Chissano in 2005 and Armando Guebuza in 2014 and the beginning of the Government of Filipe Nyusi in 2015. In addition to Chissano, Guebuza and Nyusi the exhibition presents highlights of leadership of the founder of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), Eduardo Mondlane, and the first President of independent Mozambique,Samora Machel. Divided by the three rooms of the Fortress of Maputo, the photographsreflect the Mozambican nationalism and the need to free the people and resources that were exploited by the Portuguese colonial regime. The proclamation of independence on June 25, 1975 is also reflected in this show that still brings images of the signing of the General Agreement of Peace in Rome, Italy, 23 years ago by former President Joaquim Chissano and Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama. Speaking at the exhibition opening, called "Mozambique at the Nations Concert: 40 Years of Friendship, Solidarity and Cooperation", the holder of MINEC, Baloi said that the photographs bear witness to the success of Mozambican diplomacy in a bid to make more friends and new partnerships. To Baloi, those images override the words and prove that Mozambique did both now and in the past, the right choices in terms of friendship and partnership. The photographic exhibition illustrating the 40 years of diplomatic activity conducted by Eduardo Mondlane, Samora Machel, Joaquim Chissano, Armando Guebuza and Filipe Nyusi, can be seenuntil the 17th of this month in Maputo Fortaleza.
