Afonso Dhlakama anounces formation of yet another police force
Afonso Dhlakama announced on Monday the creation of the Renamo Police force to ensure security in the autonomous provinces, a rally under the 41 years of the ceasefire between the colonial Portuguese government and Frelimo.Speaking in Milange, Zambezia' Afonso Dhlakama, leader of Mozambique National Resistance (Renamo), defending the move, said the decision comes the refusal of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo, in power) to integrate their men into the Defence Forces and security of the country."Within weeks we will be having our Police of Mozambique" said Afonso Dhlakama, explaining that the party wanted to integrate its elements in the police, but cautioned that "Frelimo did not want."The head of the Renamo said the move also responds to the failure of the Rome Agreement of 1992, which established the creation of a unified police, between state military and the guerrillas of Renamo, at the end of the war of 16 years, and the Agreement of cession of hostilities, in force since 05 September lastyear."I, Afonso Dhlakama, no longer need to put my men in the police, because it is the Frelimo police threatening the population," said the leader of Renamo. The leader of Renamo assured however that the police whose mission is to ensure the safety of the party leaders in the six autonomous provinces, is made up of demobilized ex-military and guerrillas.Afonso Dhlakama also announced the creation of a second quarter in Milange (Zambezia) - almost a week after the headquarters of the institution in Morrumbala - which will also serve for training of party police officers. The Renamo leader said that the police and the barracks "are not to attack Frelimo, not to make war against Frelimo," but to defend the people from marginalization by government forces in compliance with the orders of the party in power.Renamo does not recognize the results of the last general elections and requires the creation of provincial authorities across the country and manage immediately the six regions where it claims election victory,
