"War of words''between Renamo and Frelimo must end, says MDM
MOZAMBIQUE'S third-largest
political party, (MDM(the Democratic
Movement of Mozambique
, has criticised the ''war of
words'' being waged between
President Filipe Nyusi and Renamo leader Afonso
Dhlakama, and is demanding
instead a dialogue between the
nation's active forces that will
allow the country and the
Mozambican people to dwell in peace, and enable much-
needed economic
development. MDM leader Daviz Simango
thinks Nyusi and Dhlakama are
not making sense when they
say that they are willing to talk,
but in practice carry on at a
distance a war of words that is harmful both to peace and the
success of the Mozambican
people. In an interview with RFI, MDM
spokesperson Sande Carmona
says: "Any situation involving
differences of opinion, of ways
of being, must necessarily be
resolved through conversation, through a permanent and
ongoing dialogue involving all
the active forces in the life of Mozambique." "For us, the MDM,"
says Carmona, “there is no
room in Mozambique for
people turning their backs on
one another over differences of ideas and of understanding,
in any circumstance." "There is such a lack of
intelligence on the part of the
leadership, whether of Renamo,
or Frelimo itself, or the
government, because they
always keep these discussions going from a distance, and
often there is lack of coherence
in how they address the
differences between
themselves."
