Peanuts production boosted by Olipa

Seven tons of peanut seed have just been delivered to producers based in the districts of Murrupula and Mogovolas,in Nampula province,as part of efforts aimed at ensuring meeting the targets set for the marketing year 2015/16.

The move is by Olipa - a non governmental organization working in the field of agriculture and sustainable development, which is currently deployed in the two districts supporting a total of 1500 producers.

In the same districts about 7500 indirect beneficiaries receive support in agricultural inputs in order to meet the difficulties they face in their acquisition.

According to Abdulrazaque Muinde, executive director of that organization, it is expected that producers of peanuts that received the seed can get a harvest of about 100 tons of that income product which when placed on the market will yield an approximate value of five million meticais.

The peanut crop registers high demand at the market level in Nampula province for placement in other provinces and for export to other countries.Abdulrazaque Muinde said that it is a culture that must be a major priority in efforts to reduce dependency levels that many families remain subject.

Helena Monteiro, president of the Forum of Women Producers of the agricultural industry of Nivurraco, Murrupula district, stated that the agricultural campaign is already in progress in the germination phase stimulated by the record in the last days of rainfall. "Now we dream of literacy of our members at the forum level because it is aimed at improving the management level of revenues from sales of peanut crops and savings we are making organized under revolving credit groups," said Helena Monteiro.

Abdulrazaque Muinde ensured that the ambition of women farmers in Nampula will be realized to the extent that the Olipa-Odes has a memorandum with a local organization to support adult literacy called Uataf that besides the formation of animators provides educational materials to students.
