ZAMBÉZIA: Investment in tourism to create jobs

Zambezia is the second most- populous province of Mozambique,located in the central coastal region south- west of Nampula Province and north-east of Sofala Province. It has a population of 3,85 million (census 2007).The provincial capital is Quelimane on the Bons Sinais River.

THE GOVERNOR of Zambezia,Abdul Razak,argued in Quelimane,the promotion of investment to revive tourism in oder to create jobs and combat poverty.

The official said that the biggest challenge of the province in the future will be the attraction of domestic and foreign investment for the construction of hotels and similar units in order to reduce its deficit in the districts.

Razak said that despite progress in the construction of guesthouses and hotels,the province's districts continue to face shortage of beds to meet demand which prevents the promotion of business tourism, namely conferences, seminars or conducting functions for different State or private institutions and nongovernmental organizations.


The governor of Zambezia said the construction of new hotels can contribute decisively to job creation and poverty reduction and for raising revenue for the state coffers to fund public policies in different socio- economic fields. 

However, the recent completion of the VIII Zalala Festival was preceded by the inauguration of a tourist resort, whose implementation was made possible through financial injection of 650 thousand US dollars. The same has the twenty bedrooms, a conference room, restaurant and pool, employing at present 23 employees.

Abdul Razak said the most important thong is that the level of service must improve to win the confidence of tourists.

"To provide quality services and enhance professionalism can contribute decisively to garner sympathy from tourists.Sell ​​the picture of this complex through various communication platforms to see the plywood investment",said Abdul Razak,who also added that improved quality of services goes also hand in hand woth ongoing training of staff to raise their professional competence.

Zambezia province has over 400 kilometers of coastline that can be exploited in the development of various types of tourism, especially sport fishing and other activities to attract investment. 

"Tourism is a driving force for economic and social development and activity multiplier effects for the economy," Razak said.

In fact, the Zalala Festival and Carnival are already branded tourist products of Zambezia province that should be capitalized for managers of hotel properties and restaurants Earn Money at the time of their realization.


He pointed out that other tourism products are also the hot springs with medicinal effects,Pebane beach,the contemplation of tourism in Gurue, which should be explored.

He said the gorvenment has created the legal framework and set incentives for tourism,in particular by building roads and installing electricity and telecommunications.
