Cabo Delgado: In place contingency plan for the rainy and cyclonic season 2021–2023
Given the likelihood of flooding in the province's major hydrographic basins, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) in Cabo Delgado is putting up a plan to help those in need.
Although the contingency plan for the rainy and cyclonic season 2021–2023 anticipates a lack of rains in the months of October, November, and December, further precautions must be taken to prevent the loss of life and/or property during the hard peak rainfall period.
The Messalo, Megarruma, and Montepuez basins were identified as rivers where excessive rainfall could raise alert levels by the INGD representative in Cabo Delgado, Lizete Manuel.
Lizete Manuel assured that the province already has stocks to
respond to the rainy and cyclonic season 2022/2023, which could affect around 55,000 people in Cabo Delgado province.
