Sofala:Close to a million people could be affected by floods.

Forecasts in the Provincial Contingency Plan for the 2022–2023 rainy season indicate that over 900,000 people in Sofala may experience flooding and cyclonic winds in the upcoming months.

The districts most likely to be impacted by above-average precipitation include Beira, Dondo, Bzi, Nhamatanda, Caia, Chemba, and Marromeu, according to the document.

The Zambezi, Pangoe, Save, and Bzi rivers' flows could increase due to precipitation, flooding agricultural areas among other things, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction's (INGD) Sofala delegate cautioned. (RM)
