Mozambique Bans Fireworks for Upcoming Festive Season

Maputo, Mozambique – In a move to prioritize public safety, the Mozambican government has announced a nationwide ban on the import, sale, and use of fireworks during the 2024/2025 festive season.

The decision, issued by the Tax Authority of Mozambique, comes as a surprise to many who have traditionally celebrated the New Year with colorful displays of pyrotechnics. The ban aims to mitigate potential risks to public health and safety, particularly in light of recent incidents involving fireworks.

While fireworks have long been a popular tradition in Mozambique, concerns over accidents, injuries, and environmental impact have prompted authorities to take stricter measures. This year, the government has opted for a complete ban, a departure from previous years where restrictions were often limited to specific regions or periods.

The ban has been met with mixed reactions from the public. While some support the move, citing safety concerns, others express disappointment over the loss of a beloved tradition.

As the festive season approaches, authorities are urging citizens to comply with the ban and to celebrate responsibly.
