Mozambique Seeks to Connect Millions More to the Digital Age

Mozambique Aims to Connect 7.8       Million More to the Internet by 2030

Maputo, Mozambique – The Mozambican government has announced its ambitious plan to significantly expand internet access across the country. Currently, approximately 7.8 million citizens have access to internet services, but the government aims to connect an additional 7.8 million by 2030.

The "Internet for All" initiative, launched on Friday, is a key part of this plan. With a budget of around $1.7 billion, the government aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all Mozambicans have equal access to the digital economy.

Transport and Communications Minister Mateus Magala highlighted the need to expand internet connectivity, particularly in rural areas. He emphasized that the current 7.8 million connected citizens is far from the government's target, with 73% of the population still lacking access to this essential tool.

The government is committed to creating an inclusive digital economy where everyone can participate. By expanding internet access, Mozambique aims to unlock new opportunities for economic growth, education, and social development.
