Nampula Hospital Strained as Unrest Cripples Access

Nampula, Mozambique - The ongoing unrest following the disputed general election results is severely impacting Nampula Central Hospital, with roadblocks hindering access for medical staff and threatening patient care.

The hospital is facing a critical shortage of personnel as doctors, nurses, and support staff struggle to reach their workplaces. Some healthcare workers are reporting grueling shifts exceeding 24 hours due to the inability to relieve exhausted colleagues.

Cachimo Mulina, the hospital director, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation. "We are witnessing a rapid decline in our ability to provide adequate care," he stated. "Many staff members were unable to reach the hospital yesterday due to the roadblocks, leaving us severely understaffed."

The unrest has not only impacted staff access but also disrupted essential medical supplies and services. Ambulances are facing difficulties navigating the blocked roads, delaying critical patient transfers.

The hospital is urging all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of the community and to facilitate safe and unimpeded access for healthcare workers and emergency services.
