Pemba Gradually Restores Water Supply After Cyclone Chido
Pemba, Cabo Delgado - Efforts are underway to restore the water supply to the city of Pemba in Cabo Delgado Province after Tropical Cyclone Chido severely disrupted services. The cyclone caused significant damage to the power line that supplies electricity to the region's water systems.
Eugénio Matsinhe, Director of Águas do Norte in Cabo Delgado, stated that while water supply is still limited, some neighborhoods are beginning to receive service. "We spent seven challenging days without water in Pemba," Matsinhe said. "However, since the 23rd, we have been gradually restoring water supply according to our city schedule. We have managed to supply some neighborhoods, but not all are receiving water yet. The Mieze pumping station, one of our key stations, suffered damage from the cyclone, and we are currently operating with only one functioning station."
The restoration of water supply is crucial for the recovery efforts in Pemba, as access to clean water is essential for preventing the spread of disease and ensuring public health.
