Maputo - The Mozambican Attorney-General’s Office (PGR) has taken decisive action against drug trafficking in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. In a recent operation, authorities seized and incinerated 14 kilograms of hashish found in the possession of four individuals in the Carioca neighborhood of Pemba city.

The incineration, conducted in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Services, highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region. However, the PGR has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the case, including the origin and destination of the drugs.

This incident is part of a broader trend in Cabo Delgado, where authorities have destroyed approximately 100 kilograms of drugs this year alone. Despite these efforts, questions persist regarding the root causes of drug trafficking and the identities of the individuals behind these operations.

The National Defence and Security Council (CNDS) has called on law enforcement agencies to intensify their investigations into drug trafficking networks. The CNDS is particularly concerned about the impact of drugs on young people, recognizing the potential for addiction and other negative consequences.
