Mozambique Aims to Register Over 221,000 for Military Service
Maputo, Mozambique - January 3, 2025
The Ministry of National Defence (MDN) has set an ambitious goal to register 221,141 recruits for military service by February 28, as announced in a press conference held yesterday in Maputo. This initiative marks the commencement of military registration for the year.
Jorge Delfim Leonel, the National Director of Human Resources at the MDN, detailed that the ministry has established 1,690 registration posts across the nation, comprising 1,519 fixed locations and 171 mobile units. These facilities are tasked with enrolling 147,114 men and 74,027 women into the service.
“Every Mozambican reaching the age of 18 in 2025, along with those who have not yet fulfilled their registration obligation, will be part of this military registration drive,” Leonel stated, reinforcing the inclusivity of the campaign.
The official launch of this registration effort will take place on January 10, in the Metoro district of Cabo Delgado province, under the auspices of the Minister of National Defence, Custódio Chume.
This significant mobilization effort underscores the MDN's commitment to strengthening national defense capabilities and ensuring all eligible Mozambicans participate in the country's military service framework.
