Drug gang taken down in Maputo city

Six people have just been detained by the PRM, the police force of the Republic of Mozambique, on suspicion of being the proprietors of more than 800 kilograms of methamphetamine that were found a few days ago in the Sofala province's Gorongosa region.

Fifty kilograms of the narcotic were discovered in the group's possession, which included a Mozambican, Tanzanian, and Nigerian citizens.

The suspects were apprehended in the city of Maputo when they were attempting to transfer methamphetamine to South Africa, according to Lurdes Cuchama, a spokesman for the National Investigation Service (SEERNIC) in Sofala province.

The six suspects have joined to the three others who were detained in Gorongosa district last week during the recovery of 800 kilograms of the narcotic. (RM)
