90 year old man narrowly escapes a lynch mob in Maputo

At the Maluana administrative post in the Manhiça district of Maputo province, a 90-year-old man who had been accused of witchcraft and other superstitious practices in the area narrowly avoided being killed by lynching by the locals.

In a situation that occurred last Monday night, the populace chose to assault after receiving repeated charges of witchcraft.

The old resident, who is also a traditional leader, had his home completely demolished during the violence by the populace, who also blames the victim for some fatalities in the area.

The elderly man cited above, who has been in the neighborhood where he is currently being evicted by the locals for nearly two years, was only saved thanks to the involvement of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).
Juarce Martins, the PRM spokeswoman at the Maputo provincial command, reveals that the elderly man was taken in by the district command as a result of the forces' action.

"The command dispatched a battalion to save the elderly man"

 The ninety-year-old man stated that He was a subject of community hate, emphasizing that he was willing to conform to the customary test in order to learn the truth.

In light of the situation, the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Maputo province stated that they had already identified three culprits of the act, and that the prosecution had already begun.

Terrorism in Cabo Delgado: beheadings continue.

Another attack by  terrorists led to the beheading of a man at the Namogelia administrative post in the Chire Administrative Post of Cabo Delgado.


The incursion happened this Wednesday approximately 5:00 am, when the attackers set fire to a church and a number of residents' homes.

According to sources, the attack happened in a village near Bilibiza, where the terrorists entered and started firing in all directions, sending the locals into a state of panic. While the majority of the population has still not left the village, some people chose to go to other areas of the Nampula province while some elected to go to the district headquarters.

In a location close to Bilibiza, the Defense and Security Forces and villagers reportedly started pursuing the terrorists, and five of them were reportedly arrested.

Three more dead bodies, thought to have been beheaded, were discovered in the Chiure district on Wednesday, increasing the total number of fatalities in the Messanja region, Katapua Administrative Post, to four.

Authorities dismantle clandestine iPhone factory in Maputo City

Denounciation by a citizen  led to the discovery and dismantling of an iPHONE "mobile phone factory" in Maputo, Mozambique.

The factory was run from a private apartment by two Chinese nationals.


According to Gimo Jone, the head of Customs in Maputo, mobile phones were launched into the national market without a license from the National Institute of Communications of Mozambique (INCM).

Actually, this is a factory; it's an apartment, but it functions like a factory. Mobile phones are assembled here for sale in the Alto-Maè area.

All of these mobile phones were brought into the country without the INCM license, let alone the customs declaration. As a result, it is smuggling in addition to  the other crime as there is no legal paperwork for the importation and placement of mobile phones on the market," he added.
More than a thousand iPHONE mobile phones and different materials used to counterfeit IMEIs, or mobile phone identification numbers, were seized as a part of the three-week investigation.

The factory's owners are of Chinese origin and, when confronted, refute the allegations:

– Do you confirm that you posses all the necessary documents?

– Yes, I have everything, and we have already confirmed that t. So what they is wrong and illegal .

– You operated as a factory. Where are your documents?

– We have everything and they seized all. I'm very angry, I won't say anything else - stated one of the proprieteries of the "factory".

All that was impounded, according to the Mozambican Customs, will be submitted to the Attorney General's Office for subsequent actions, while the two alleged counterfeiters face the legal consequences.

The multisectoral team that dismantled the factory was made up of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, the National Criminal Investigation Service, the National Institute of Communications of Mozambique, the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities and Customs of Mozambique.

Mozambican Association of People: Training legislators on disability and human rights concerns

Starting this Friday, the Forum of Mozambican Association of People with Disabilities (FAMOD) will teach MPs of the Assembly of the Republic in disability and rights issues in Maputo.

According to FAMOD's executive coordinator, Clodualdo Castiano, the training stems from the ongoing process of submitting the Draft Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Mozambique to the Assembly of the Republic.

Malawian driver involved in illegal immigrants transportation still on the run.

The search for the Malawian driver, who was apprehended last Saturday in Manica while transporting 74 emigrants, all Malawians, in a tanker  , continues.

According to Mateus Mind, spokesman for the provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Manica, the driver charged each individual traveling for South Africa two thousand five hundred rands.

Seventy-four illegal migrants who entered the nation through Tete province were apprehended in Manica's Guro area.

They informed Radio Mozambique that they wanted to live in South Africa since the conditions there were better.

"We left Malawi and made our way to Durban." Each passenger paid 2,500 rand. "We were hungry in Malawi, so we went looking for better living conditions," some interviewees said.

The screening process that precedes the return of Malawian citizens is still ongoing.

Conference of the Heads of the Supreme Courts of Southern Africa underway in Maputo

Today and tomorrow in the city of Maputo, the heads of the Supreme Courts of Justice of Southern Africa convene for an annual conference.

The conference, which has "Accountability and the Role of the Judiciary in the Fight against Terrorism" as its theme, will cover issues like the adoption of an electronic process management system, the funding of terrorism and related crimes, and the idea of judicial independence and accountability. 1st week of December:Launch of the Road Inspection Plan for the festive season


The Ministry of Transport and Communications initiates the Road Inspection Plan for the upcoming festive season in the first week of December with the intention of lowering traffic accidents.

The National Road number 4 (EN4) to Ressano Garcia and the National Road number 1 (EN1) in the province of  were some of the National Roads that a multi-sectoral brigade led by the deputy minister of Transport and Communications, Hamilton Alison, went up this Saturday for the survey of details to enrich the plan.

To reduce traffic on the two highways, alternate routes must be opened, and road signs must be improved.

The police and secret service called upon to stop the spread of terrorism and road accidents.

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) intelligence unit has been tasked by the Interior Ministry (MININT) to seek to halt the spread of terrorist acts to other regions of the nation.

Victor Canhemba, the permanent secretary of MININT, made the statement on Friday at the outset of the 23rd PRM Council in Cabo Delgado's Palma district headquarters.

Canhemba stated that proactive measures are required to support initiatives that can help to mitigate and combat the spread of terrorist acts to more locations.

The PRM was also tasked with developing a strategy for lowering the prevailing high incidence of road accidents, whose effects are catastrophic.


17 indicted for armed bank robberry in Quelimane .

The indictment against 17 suspects, who are allegedly involved in the robbery of Banco Comercial de Investimentos(BCI), in Quelimane and the seizure of more than 134 million meticais, was filed to the Zambézia Judicial Court this month by the Provincial Prosecutor's Office.

Part of the suspects are said to be  employees of BCI bank itself, according to a statement from the Zambézia Provincial Attorney's Office that was given to the media in Quelimane.

Four of the 17 defendants are being held in preventive detention. All of the defendants have been charged with bribery, aggravated robbery, criminal association, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The Zambézia Provincial Prosecutor's Office, on the other hand, launched a separate investigation in an effort to bring additional persons who may have been engaged in the heist to justice.

The theft from the Banco Comercial e Investimentos, BCI, central treasury in Quelimane, occured during broad daylight on July 29 last year.

Tete: Member of Notorious Poaching Gang nabbed.

This Friday, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Tete detained a national in possession of eight ivory tusks that were the product of the slaughter of four elephants in the Mgoè district.

In the administrative post of Mukumbura, close to the border with the Republic of Zimbabwe, the poacher in question got caught up in the police net while attempting to sell his trophies.

A complaint to the National Administration of Conservation Areas led to the citizen's imprisonment.

The ivory tusks, according to a SERNIC representative in Tete, weighted ninety-four kilograms and were being sold for 3,000 meticais each.

The person detained, according to Celina Roque, is a member of a gang of criminals who were committed to poaching in the Mágoè.

Drug gang taken down in Maputo city

Mozambique: Businessman eludes attempted abduction in Nampula

The attempted kidnapping of a local businessman in Nampula, in the country's north, took place on Thursday, according to the Mozambican Police (PRM).

This Friday, PRM spokesman Zacarias Nacute told reporters that the force is working to solve the case that led to significant social unrest in Nampula.

Firearms were carried by the car-driving kidnappers, who fired them at the scene.

The kidnappers were unable to take the victim out of the cafeteria where he was staying due to the sheer victim's resistance, and in an effort to intimidate him, one of the crooks fired an AKM-47 machinegun at him, scaring the hell out of him, and then leaped into their car and drove off.

Mozambique.Prisons in Nampula province Overcrowded.

Prison overcrowding in Nampula province is making it difficult to accommodate inmates.

The Supreme Court's vice president, Joo Beiro, claims that owing to overcrowding, inmates—even those with health issues—share bedding and household items in the same cell.

Greater occurrences of the phenomenon have been observed in Nampula's districts of Eráti, Malema, Mogovolas, Nacaroa and Mueca .

Despite the fact that it is quite hot there aren't enough blankets.  The facilities don't have insecticides or mosquito nets for protection, inmates end up getting malaria and a host of other ailments.

This past Friday, Joo Beiro spoke at a press conference in Nampula to conclude his four-day working tour.

Traffic agent run over by car and left for dead in Marracuene, Maputo province.

The Republic of Mozambique (PRM) police are looking for the driver who ran over and abandoned a traffic police officer on Wednesday morning on National Road number one (EN1) in Marracuene district, Maputo province.

The aforementioned driver, who was driving a light vehicle between Manhiça and Maputo City, fled after running over the Traffic Police officer.

As a result of this accident, the victim, who was involved in traffic regulation with other agents, sustained serious injuries and is being treated at the José Macamo General Hospital.

Juarce Martins, spokesman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in the Maputo provincial command, explains that the corporation will use electronic devices installed along the highway to track down the fugitive. (RM)


Defense ministers of Mozambique and Tanzania meet in Maputo





The Defense Ministers of Mozambique and Tanzania are analyzing, this Thursday, in Maputo, Defense and Security matters in the two countries.

The Ministry of Defense says that the meeting is taking place within the framework of the fourth session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Defense and Security of Mozambique and Tanzania.

The meeting will, among other matters, analyze bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and design actions to be developed in the fields of Defense, Public Security and State Security. (RM)

16 Terrorists Dead: Mozambique Defense Forces



   
AT least sixteen bodies of terrorists were found in the woods of Quissanga district, Cabo Delgado province. Some were killed in clashes with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and others attacked by animals.

The information was shared yesterday by the general commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Bernardino Rafael, in a meeting with the population of the village of Natuco, in the district of Quissanga.

According to Rafael, the terrorists were part of the group that on September 25 attacked the village of Natuco, where they murdered people and set fire to houses.

“As I speak to you, I have to say that the bodies of the sixteen terrorists are being buried. Some died from bullets from our forces and others as a result of attacks by animals such as lions, buffaloes and snakes”, said the commander-in-chief, adding that the incursion of the criminals into Natuco was led by an individual identified by the unique name of Zubair, from Memba, Nampula province.

Frelimo's Secretary General says that friendly political parties have expressed their repudiation of terrorist action in some areas of northern Mozambique.

Roque Silva was speaking today in Maputo, at the end of an audience he granted to a group of representatives of foreign political parties, who participated in Frelimo's Twelfth.

On the occasion, the Frelimo leader said that he received a clear message, that the fight against terrorism should not be a challenge only for Mozambique. (RM)

Zambezia. Three individuals indicted for illegal sale of medicines from the National Health System arrested




Three individuals aged between thirty-five and forty-six years old are being held in the provincial command of the PRM, in Zambézia. for illegal sale of medicines from the national health system.

The arrest took place in the town of Mugeba, district of Mocuba, and the alleged sellers were neutralized in the local market, in possession of unspecified quantities of drugs.

Asked about the origin of the medicines, they alleged that they bought them from private pharmacies in Mozambique and neighboring Malawi, for resale.

The head of Public Relations at the provincial command of the PRM in Zambézia, Miguel Caetano, says that the individuals, now detained, have been engaged in the illegal sale of medicines from the National Health Service for three years. (RM)

Mozambique: Defence, security meeting in Maputo with Tanzania kicks off

The defence ministers of Mozambique and Tanzania, as well as experts from the two countries, are meeting from today until Friday in Maputo, at a time when the two countries are facing a common terrorist threat in Cabo Delgado.

The topic will be on the agenda of this fourth session of the Permanent Joint Commission on Defence and Security, a body that regularly brings the two countries together.

The session will be co-chaired by Ministers Cristóvão Artur Chume, on the Mozambican side, and Stergomena Tax, representing Tanzania.

In addition to evaluating accomplishments to date, the meeting will serve to “design actions to be developed in the fields of Defence, Public Security and State Security, as well as improve cooperation mechanisms”, a statement about the event reads.

The ministerial meeting is preceded, today, by a meeting of defence and security experts from the two countries.

Mozambique and Tanzania signed two memoranda of understanding on Wednesday, one in the area of defence and the other on rescue and salvage operations, during a meeting between Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi and the Tanzanian head of state, Samia Suluhu.

The MoUs are related to the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado, a region in northern Mozambique rich in natural gas.

“We are aware that Mozambique and Tanzania share an extensive border about 800 kilometres long, the longest in the region. Therefore, we are aware that we have to strengthen our cooperation mechanisms,” Samia Suhulu said during her visit to Maputo.

Tanzania is a member of SAMIM, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) military mission supporting Mozambican troops in the fight against the armed insurgency.

Cabo Delgado province has been terrorized since 2017 by armed rebels, with some attacks claimed by the Islamic State extremist group.

The conflict has internally displaced about 800,000 people, according to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and killed about 4,000 individuals (ACLED conflict registry figure).

Renamo leader's son arrested

The Provincial Office for Combating Corruption detained, today, the councilor of the Economic Promotion, Market and Fair Management sector, in the city of Nampula, suspected of carrying out illegal administrative acts.

According to the Provincial Office for Combating Corruption, Osvaldo Ossufo Momade misled the president of the Nampula Municipal Council, Paulo Vahanle, and obstructed justice.

The Provincial Office for Combating Corruption also accuses Osvaldo Momade of abuse of office or function, fraud and false statements or statements.

Osvaldo Momade is the son of the president of Renamo.
