Mozambique.Prisons in Nampula province Overcrowded.

Prison overcrowding in Nampula province is making it difficult to accommodate inmates.

The Supreme Court's vice president, Joo Beiro, claims that owing to overcrowding, inmates—even those with health issues—share bedding and household items in the same cell.

Greater occurrences of the phenomenon have been observed in Nampula's districts of Eráti, Malema, Mogovolas, Nacaroa and Mueca .

Despite the fact that it is quite hot there aren't enough blankets.  The facilities don't have insecticides or mosquito nets for protection, inmates end up getting malaria and a host of other ailments.

This past Friday, Joo Beiro spoke at a press conference in Nampula to conclude his four-day working tour.
