Mozambique wants to increase electricity production capacity



By next year, Mozambique will increase its capacity for domestic production of electricity and supply to South Africa.

The initiative aims, in part, to respond to the energy crisis in that neighboring country.

 This could result in the installation of a thermal power station in the Beluluane Industrial Park, in the district of Boane, with a production capacity of two thousand megawatts, equivalent to the capacity of the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Power Plant.   

The infrastructure, valued at US$2.8 billion, will comprise a gasification plant, to be installed in the port of Matola, with a pipeline for transporting gas to neighboring South Africa and a branch to the Beluluane Thermal Power Plant. .

The director general of MozParks, Honório Boane explains that with the Beluluane power station, the conditions will be created for the development of the second phase of the project to expand the Industrial Park and the consequent attraction of more industrial investments to the country. (RM)

Defense ministers of Mozambique and Tanzania meet in Maputo





The Defense Ministers of Mozambique and Tanzania are analyzing, this Thursday, in Maputo, Defense and Security matters in the two countries.

The Ministry of Defense says that the meeting is taking place within the framework of the fourth session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Defense and Security of Mozambique and Tanzania.

The meeting will, among other matters, analyze bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and design actions to be developed in the fields of Defense, Public Security and State Security. (RM)

16 Terrorists Dead: Mozambique Defense Forces



   
AT least sixteen bodies of terrorists were found in the woods of Quissanga district, Cabo Delgado province. Some were killed in clashes with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and others attacked by animals.

The information was shared yesterday by the general commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Bernardino Rafael, in a meeting with the population of the village of Natuco, in the district of Quissanga.

According to Rafael, the terrorists were part of the group that on September 25 attacked the village of Natuco, where they murdered people and set fire to houses.

“As I speak to you, I have to say that the bodies of the sixteen terrorists are being buried. Some died from bullets from our forces and others as a result of attacks by animals such as lions, buffaloes and snakes”, said the commander-in-chief, adding that the incursion of the criminals into Natuco was led by an individual identified by the unique name of Zubair, from Memba, Nampula province.

 Mozambique, at least 17 people lost their lives in road accidents over the past week, and another 50 were injured, 17 of them seriously.

A press release issued yesterday by the General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) indicates that the damage resulted from 14 accidents, of which seven were run-overs and four attributed to skidding and overturning.

Excessive speed and irregular overtaking were cited as the main cause of the accidents.

Meanwhile, during road inspection activities, 38 individuals were arrested for driving illegally and 60 for attempted corruption.

A further 104 crimes were reported during the past week, of which 93 have already been clarified, corresponding to 89% positive police performance.

Tete: Road accident claims a dozen lives .

At least 11 people were killed and another 17 injured following a car accident that took place in the Tsangano district, Mozambique’s western province of Tete, Thursday, the country’s national radio station Radio Mozambique reported.

According to the report, the accident involved a cargo truck carrying both goods {potatoes] and passengers, which skidded and rolled over on a downhill road.

“The truck had mechanical difficulties and the driver could not control the truck,” the report quoted the district police commander in Tsangano, Carlos Cabeca, as saying.

The report did not mention whether the driver has survived the accident.

The truck was believed to be heading to an agricultural fair and the injured people were taken to the local hospital, said the report.

Campaign to inspect the use of electricity, in Nampula



 Power company, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), in Nampula, has been launching, since the beginning of this month, a campaign to monitor the use of electricity in this part of the country. 

In this first phase, the focus is on condominiums, commercial establishments and mills, to assess the legality of energy consumption.

The director of EDM, customer service area of ​​Nampula, Eduardo Pinto, informed that the last inspection campaigns carried out made it possible to reduce the levels of financial losses caused by illegal consumption.

During Thursday's inspection, a milling industry that used electricity illegally was dismantled in Namicopo, in the city of Nampula.
