Well collapse kills a man in Beira

A man got buried whilst excavating a well in the city of Beira, Sofala.

The 34-year-old victim was about five meters deep, attempting to fix the excavating equipment, when the catastrophe struck.

The deceased's body was recovered from the well by the National Service for Public Safety (SENSAP) after a five-hour operation.

 Fernando Farias, the corporation's representative, emphasizes the importance of taking precautions when excavating wells. (RM)

Sofala:Close to a million people could be affected by floods.

Forecasts in the Provincial Contingency Plan for the 2022–2023 rainy season indicate that over 900,000 people in Sofala may experience flooding and cyclonic winds in the upcoming months.

The districts most likely to be impacted by above-average precipitation include Beira, Dondo, Bzi, Nhamatanda, Caia, Chemba, and Marromeu, according to the document.

The Zambezi, Pangoe, Save, and Bzi rivers' flows could increase due to precipitation, flooding agricultural areas among other things, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction's (INGD) Sofala delegate cautioned. (RM)

COVID-19: More than 10 Business in Sofala still shuttered.

Due to the effects of natural calamities and the covid-19 pandemic, more than 10 businesses in the province of Sofala are still shuttered.

Many other businesses are struggling and need  funding.

Ricardo Cunhaque, president of the Sofala Business Council, argues that despite the efforts of the government to lessen the effects of natural hazards and the pandemic issue, much work still needs to be done.

The official does admit that the President of the Republic's newly announced Economic Acceleration Program is a breath of fresh air for small and medium-sized businesses. (RM

Sofala. More than 500 families evacuated from Caia due to threat of flooding

As  a consequence of discharges  of  Lake Cahora Bassa  on the Zambezi river in Tete Province, more than five hundred riverine familes in the district of Caia, in Sofala,  have been evacuated due to the threat of flooding.

 Residents voluntarily left the flood prone areas on advice from the local authorities.

Peasants cultivatin the banks of the Zambezi river's small islands, which are always affected by the waters are
among the evacuees.

According to the administrator of Caia, Nobre dos Santos, the district is on red alert and everything is being done to  prevent the loss of human lives.
