COVID-19 claims two more lives in M

As of October 25 Mozambique has had two deaths from COVID-19, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health,  two male  Mozambican nationalities  aged between 76 and 46 years.

Regarding the number of new infections, 30 individuals tested positive for COVID-19, of which 23 are of Mozambican nationality, one foreigner and six of nationalities yet to be verified.

MISAU data also indicate that the city of Maputo led the list with 17 cases, corresponding to 56.7%, followed by Tete province with eight cases, equivalent to 26.7% and five cases were diagnosed in the provinces of Inhambane, Sofala , Manica, Nampula and Niassa, corresponding to 3.3% per province.

The positivity rate,  is 2.74%, while the accumulated positivity rate is 12.91%.

Mozambique has, cumulatively, 70,636 positive cases registered, of which 70,320 are locally transmitted and 316 are from abroad.

From Monday to Tuesday, the country recorded 17 fully recovered instances of COVID-19, bringing the cumulative to 69,117.

During the same period, there was a new admission and a hospital discharge.

 In the country, so far, there is a cumulative of 3,420 hospitalized patients, of which 16 are currently in COVID-19 inpatient centers and other hospital units.

Thus, there are currently 682 known active cases of COVID-19 in Mozambique.

"There are sufficient medicines to treat ailments throughout the rainy season." - Health Minister

The country has enough medications to treat illnesses during the current wet season, according to Minister of Health Armindo Tiago.

This past Wednesday, Armindo Tiago spoke in Tete and stressed the importance of initiating preventive measures  of waterborne illnesses.

"We are adequately stocked and prepared for the upcoming months, with a focus on waterborne infections that are on the rise during this wet season. Our plea is to ensure that the appropriate precautions are taken to save individuals from becoming ill, not to wait until they are ill before providing them with treatment, the man stated (RM)

Mozambican Writer Paulina Chiziane awarded an Honorary doctorate

Paulina Chiziane, a writer, has been given an Honorary doctorate  by the Pedagogical University of Maputo (UP Maputo).

According to a statement from this university, the title is given in recognition, appreciation, and reward for the author's work in research, production, literary, cultural, and anthropological publication, as well as other accomplishments geared toward the advancement of academics and civic engagement throughout the nation and the world. 

Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane on a working visit to Sofala province

As of today  Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane is visiting Sofala province.

The High Level Meeting for the Review of the Post-Cyclone Reconstruction Program will be under the direction of Adriano Maleiane in the city of Beira.

The Prime Minister will visit Campo Agrcola da Cerâmica in Beira and the Project for Construction of Houses in the Resettlement Neighborhood of Ndenja in the district of Nhamatanda, among other places, while also in Sofala. (RM)

The proposed bill on the legal status of foreign nationals is being debated in parliament. The draft law that sets the legal framework for foreign nationals, including the rules for entry, stay, and leave in the nation, is now being reviewed generally by the Parliament.

The African Cultural Renaissance Charter, which lays out the guidelines for the promotion and enhancement of cultural heritage on the continent, will be one of the resolutions that the deputies specifically consider today. (RM)

More than 100,000 people in Manica could be affected by floods and inudations this rainy season

During the current rainy season, flooding and/or inundations could threaten more than 100,000 people living in areas that are traversed by the Zambezi, Bzi, and Save basins in the province of Manica.

The National Institute for Disaster Risk Management's representative in Manica, Borges Viagem, declared that logistics have been prepared owing to the availability of boats and tents for temporary shelter and relief.

A little more than 15 million Meticais, according to the source, would be required to deal with any bad weather that might develop now and during the cyclonic period. (RM

USAID provides 682 million meticais to support student retention programs in Zambézia and Nampula schools.

The Student Retention Program in Schools in the Provinces of Zambézia and Nampula will be funded with more than 9.5 million dollars, or 682 million meticais, by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Civil Society Education and Learning and Training Center, or CESC, will run the program, which will engage kids and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 19.

Inocêncio Manjuel, the deputy national director of the CESC's AGE Program, spoke on Tuesday in the Milange region and explained that the program has a five-year term and also seeks to enhance students' pedagogical performance.

Some beneficiaries  expressed satisfaction with the support they will get to complete their studies.

Inhambane. For the festive season, Vilankulo is expecting more than 60,000 visitors

During the next festive season, more than 60,000 tourists will travel to the Vilankulo district.

At many resorts in the city and district of Vilankulo, both domestic and foreign tourists have already made reservations.

Visitors from neighboring South Africa, Zimbabwe, Europe, and North America stand out among international visitors.

Yassine Amugy, the president of the Vilankulo Tourism Association, claims that the international exposure provided by the district's hosting of the beach football CAN helped Vilankulo attract more tourists. (RM)

Communities and managers from Açucareira de Xinavane meet to discuss potential remedies for suspected land usurpation.

This Wednesday, managers of Açucareira de Xinavane and representatives of the nearby villages will meet in Maputo province to discuss ways to address the business' alleged land usurpation.

The Chief Executive of the Province shall mediate discussions between the community and the owner of the sugar production enterprise.

Aida Suleimane, the provincial director of Maputo's Territorial Development and Environment and a member of the mediation team, says she anticipates agreement.

"We began a project earlier that involved sensitizing the parties to look for new regions. Our goal is to meet the requirements of our population while also supporting the business so that it can continue to operate and provide jobs for the nearby areas, according to him. (RM)

Nampula:Church arrested for act of instigating civil disobedience

Church leader in Nampula  detained and charged with inciting public unrest.

The head of a church in the Rapale neighborhood was arrested this week by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Nampula after being charged with inciting public disorder.

The person is charged with spreading messages during services that forbade communities from studying and from contacting state institutions in the event of problems.

According to Zacarias Nacute, the PRM's spokesman in Nampula, when the PRM learned about the issue, it went to the church to convince the pastor to stop spreading messages encouraging public disruption.

Nacute claims that after being dissatisfied, the adherents proceeded to the police station to protest the decision, which is why the organization imprisoned the said church leader.

Well collapse kills a man in Beira

A man got buried whilst excavating a well in the city of Beira, Sofala.

The 34-year-old victim was about five meters deep, attempting to fix the excavating equipment, when the catastrophe struck.

The deceased's body was recovered from the well by the National Service for Public Safety (SENSAP) after a five-hour operation.

 Fernando Farias, the corporation's representative, emphasizes the importance of taking precautions when excavating wells. (RM)
