Cabo Delgado:Montepuez Ruby Mining Limitada operational update

MRM Operational Update

On 20 October 2022, Gemfields updated the market regarding the Cabo Delgado insurgency and Gemfields’ decision at the time to initiate an evacuation of operational employees and contractors from Montepuez Ruby Mining Limitada (“MRM”), in which Gemfields holds a 75% interest.

The evacuation was initiated as an ample precaution due to an attack, attributed to insurgents, on the morning of Thursday 20 October 2022 on a neighbouring ruby mine located approximately 12km south-east of MRM’s operations. MRM’s security personnel and the Mozambique police force remained on site at MRM. The Mozambique military arrived at MRM later that day and will maintain a presence for the foreseeable future.

Key operational personnel have now returned to MRM and basic operations have resumed.

Mining and processing activities are being resumed in phases after giving due consideration to the threat perceptions in the licence area.

Gemfields and MRM hold the health and safety of their employees and contractors as their highest priority. MRM remains on a state of high alert and maintains regular dialogue with government authorities.

First Lady to attend leadership Seminar in Dubai.

The first lady of Mozambique, Isaura Nyusi, will attend the Leadership Seminar this Tuesday and Wednesday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to a statement obtained in our newsroom.

The First Lady will be conferred an honorary degree on the occasion by the London Graduate School in partnership with the Commonwealth University in honour of her leadership in different social areas, according to a statement from the Republic's Presidency. (RM).

Malawian driver involved in illegal immigrants transportation still on the run.

The search for the Malawian driver, who was apprehended last Saturday in Manica while transporting 74 emigrants, all Malawians, in a tanker  , continues.

According to Mateus Mind, spokesman for the provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Manica, the driver charged each individual traveling for South Africa two thousand five hundred rands.

Seventy-four illegal migrants who entered the nation through Tete province were apprehended in Manica's Guro area.

They informed Radio Mozambique that they wanted to live in South Africa since the conditions there were better.

"We left Malawi and made our way to Durban." Each passenger paid 2,500 rand. "We were hungry in Malawi, so we went looking for better living conditions," some interviewees said.

The screening process that precedes the return of Malawian citizens is still ongoing.

United Arab Emirates businesspeople seek to boost their investments in Mozambique.

This is an observation made by Mateus Magala, Minister of Transport and Communications, during the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi's, working visit to that Middle Eastern country.

" The United Arab Emirates expressed a strong interest in partnering with and investing in Mozambique in a variety of areas." This is great to observe. "I feel there is confidence in Mozambique's macroeconomic and political structural reforms,"  stated the Minister.

Conference of the Heads of the Supreme Courts of Southern Africa underway in Maputo

Today and tomorrow in the city of Maputo, the heads of the Supreme Courts of Justice of Southern Africa convene for an annual conference.

The conference, which has "Accountability and the Role of the Judiciary in the Fight against Terrorism" as its theme, will cover issues like the adoption of an electronic process management system, the funding of terrorism and related crimes, and the idea of judicial independence and accountability. Nyusi visits the UAE with a focus on the economy, defense, and security.

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, will meet with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Muhammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, on Monday in Abu Dhabi, as part of his official visit to the country.

The two leaders' conversations will result in the signing of agreements in the economic, technical, defense, and security spheres, as well as in the fight against terrorism.

One of the UAE's priorities in Mozambique is the mobilization of additional investments in the energy industry.

Between 2016 and 2020, the UAE invested around $300 million in development projects in Mozambique, making it one of the country's major sources of foreign investment.

Niassa: 42 Suspected cases of foot and mouth disease in cattle .

Cattle and other animals are prohibited  from entering or leaving the Mecanhelas region of Niassa, according to the local government.

It's feared that foot-and-mouth disease is proliferating in cattle, resulting in this concern.

According to the National Veterinary Directorate, there are at least 42 cattle in the town of Entre Lagos that show foot-and-mouth disease symptoms.

The presence of wounds and a lack of appetite in these animals, according to Ahmad Maulana, Director of Mecanhelas District Services for Economic Activities, suggests that they are indications of foot-and-mouth disease.

While this herd of cattle is being kept isolated, the source asserted that the disease-prevention efforts are ratcheting up. (RM)

The producers and managers of rice development and husking factories are urged to strengthen the circuit of this cereal's marketing chain by the Council of Provincial State Representation Services in Gaza.

This proposal seeks to put an end to the concerns of family sector producers who constantly lament the lack of a market for the placement of their produce due to the absence of binding link between the promotion, sale, processing, and transport markets for rice.

The spokesperson for the Council of Provincial State Representation Services in Gaza has presented these guidelines.

According to Jorge Fole, there are conditions for the sale of rice in that province.


1st week of December:Launch of the Road Inspection Plan for the festive season


The Ministry of Transport and Communications initiates the Road Inspection Plan for the upcoming festive season in the first week of December with the intention of lowering traffic accidents.

The National Road number 4 (EN4) to Ressano Garcia and the National Road number 1 (EN1) in the province of  were some of the National Roads that a multi-sectoral brigade led by the deputy minister of Transport and Communications, Hamilton Alison, went up this Saturday for the survey of details to enrich the plan.

To reduce traffic on the two highways, alternate routes must be opened, and road signs must be improved.

Niassa: Peasants cautioned not to sow their seeds too early

In light of the predicted occurrence of the El Nio phenomena during the approaching rainy season, the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) in Niassa appealed to the local peasants not to plant the seed too soon.

According to INAM statistics, the province of Niassa  will experience normal rainfall from October to December, with a tendency toward below average rainfall, particularly in the northern region, and normal rainfall with an above normal trend from January to April 2023.

Tomás Inácio, the representative of the National Institute of Meteorology in Niassa, urges to the peasants to base their planting decisions on information from the sector in order to prevent seed deterioration in the  field.


Bad weather predicted for Maputo,Gaza, and Inhambane.

In the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, and Inhambane, the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) forecasts the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds with local gusts, commencing on Saturday.

The districts of Matutne, Namaacha, Boane, Moamba, Magude, and the cities of Maputo and Matola may be particularly affected in the Maputo province by this phenomena.

The districts of Massingir, Mabalane, Xigubo, and Chicualacuala in Gaza province would be most hit by the torrential downpours.

In Inhambane, the districts of Massinga, Vilankulo, and Funhalouro are expected to see bad weather.

In view of the likelihood of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and related phenomena, INAM urges implementing preventative and safety precautions. (RM)

Nyusi embarks on four-day visit to the United Arab Emirates

According to a press release we received in our newsroom, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, will commence his official four-day visit to the United Arab Emirates this Sunday.

The document states that Filipe Nyusi's visit is in response to the invitation extended by Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi.

The United Arab Emirates and Mozambique will have the chance to define strategies for boosting their bilateral and global friendship and cooperation as a result of the head of state of Mozambique's visit. This will give the two nations an opportunity deepen their political, economic, and business ties.

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) intelligence unit has been tasked by the Interior Ministry (MININT) to seek to halt the spread of terrorist acts to other regions of the nation.

Victor Canhemba, the permanent secretary of MININT, made the statement on Friday at the outset of the 23rd PRM Council in Cabo Delgado's Palma district headquarters.

Canhemba stated that proactive measures are required to support initiatives that can help to mitigate and combat the spread of terrorist acts to more locations.

The PRM was also tasked with developing a strategy for lowering the prevailing high incidence of road accidents, whose effects are catastrophic.


Sofala:Close to a million people could be affected by floods.

Forecasts in the Provincial Contingency Plan for the 2022–2023 rainy season indicate that over 900,000 people in Sofala may experience flooding and cyclonic winds in the upcoming months.

The districts most likely to be impacted by above-average precipitation include Beira, Dondo, Bzi, Nhamatanda, Caia, Chemba, and Marromeu, according to the document.

The Zambezi, Pangoe, Save, and Bzi rivers' flows could increase due to precipitation, flooding agricultural areas among other things, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction's (INGD) Sofala delegate cautioned. (RM)
